The Franklin electors have assembled in public meeting, and have drawn up a few simple directions for their representatives, which will be found in our telegraphic column. The instructions of their constituents to Messrs. Lusk and Hamlin are as comprehensive as those given to the late Mr. Gregsbury, who went to Parliament pledged to play the devil with everything and everybody. If the instructions of the Franklin constituency lack the conciseness of the above, they at least cover as much ground. Not only are Messrs. Lusk and Hamlin to act unitedly with Sir George Grey, but they are to regard the vote of £3OOO for the family of the late Dr. Featherston as an unjustifiable expenditure of public money, and on no account are they to let Sir Juxicrs "Vogee get a penny of his extra expenses whilst in Europe. The duties of their representatives have been much simplified by the high-minded and independent action of the Franklin electors. The course of action for those representatives now lies clearly before them. They have only to stick to Sir George Grey, and oppose everyone and everything connected with the Government. Sir George Grey and those Auckland members who follow him are patriots; and it is some consolation to know that, acting under simple instructions from a constituency, patriotism is one of the easiest sentiments to serve under.
