WELLINGTON DISTRICT HIGHWAYS BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the Wellington District Highways Board was held at the office, Lower Hutt, on Wednesday. Present — Mr. T. Mason (chairman), Messrs. Sinclair, Taylor, Searanke, Smith, Monaghan, and Speedy. The following sums were ordered to be paid : No. 1 Ward. — Janson and Davis, repairs, £2O 55.; Daniel Dealy, construction, £6O ; Mark Bird, £43 95.; J. Contingencies—Thomas Robinson, £4 16s. 6d.; Thomas Smith, £1 2s. 9d. NO. 1 WARD. The fact of the Provincial Government having declared No. 1 Ward a separate highway district was reported, and a discussion ensued as to whether the funds to the credit of No. 1 Ward, some £7O, should be handed over to the newly constituted Board until the contracts at present let were completed. It wasresolved that the money should be retained till the Board was freed from all responsibility ; it was also decided that no more money should be expended in the ward. KARORI-ROAD. After some discussion, it was resolved that the Superintendent be requested to gazette the road from the Karori-road through Orangikaupapa to the land in the occupation of J. Kilminster and others. OTARI AND COLES ROADS. The tender of Daniel Dealy for formation of road at Otari, at £3O, was accepted ; and that of Giles Edwards for repairs on Colesroad, Waiwetu, were accepted. No. 3 WARD. The warden of No. 3 Ward was authorised to expend £BO on the formation of Motu-Karaha-road, and £6 for obtaining a copy of the ratebook of the ward. The hearing of appeals against the assessments was postponed. BONUS TO TREASURER. A bonus of ten guineas was" granted to the treasurer for extra work. The Board then adjourned.
