On Wednesday last an inquest was held on the body of George Meyrick, at Mr Langdon's, before Robert Maunsell, Esq, J.P., Deputy Coroner, and a jury. The principal evidence was given by a native, who stated that the horse witness rode was too weak to, withstand the current and was backed off the bridge. Mr Morgan Carkeek identified the body as that of George Meyrick, one of his survey party, who was on the road to Castle Point for stores. The jury returned a verdict of (i Accidentally drowned," and attached a rider to the effect that all public bridges should be protected by handrails. The funeral took place on the 3rd (Thursday). A sitting of the Petty Sessions Court was held on the 4th, but no cases were down for hearing, and the Court adjourned till Friday, Ist August.
