Painful Accident at Nelson.—A serious and very painful accident which happened to William Good, on Wednesday afternoon, is reported in the Nelson papers. Mr Good was employed feeding a steam chaff-cutter belonging to his brother, Mr Walter Good, of Selwyn place, when, in pushing the hay forward, his left hand unfortunately was caught by the rollers and drawn through to the knives, which fairly chopped the hand and lower arm to pieces. Some seconds passed before Mr Good could extricate his arm, through the boy employed with himnot comprehending what hadoccurred, and instead of stopping the machine as directed, running down stairs from the loft to turn off the steam. Drs Williams and Farelle promptly attended to the sufferer, and it was found necessary to amputate the arm from the elbow, and although the patient suffered greatly from the shock sustained by the nervous system, and from loss of blood, he is now progressing favorably. Mr Good is married, and has five young children.
