RIFLE MATCH.

The Interprovincial Rifle Match between the representatives of Otago and our Wellington marksmen, was fired on Monday afternoon at the Adelaide butts. The weather might be considered rather unfavorable for the majority of riflemen, but as our men have gained the credit of being able to shoot exceptionally well in windy weather, perhaps the day was not on that account so displeasing to them as it may have been to our Otago friends. There is, however, nothing in the scoring to justify the assumption ; nor is it at all probable that the Otago men, who are so indefatigable in their practice, should find themselves at a disadvantage in any weather. As the scoring of both teams is not up to their average, it will, perhaps, not be far out to attribute the slightfalling off of the Otago men to their surfeit of successes, and the very weariness of so much firing ; while some of our own men may have been a little disconcerted by competing with such proved good shots. On the whole, therefore, we may say that in all adventitious circumstances neither team had an advantage over the other. As the majority for Otago is only 17, we have every reason to be satisfied with the shooting of our representatives. The ranges are 200, 500, and 600 yards ; standing at the first range, and kneeling at the others. The following are the scores : OTAGO. WELLINGTON.
