THE LEAGUE CODE

MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP

OTAHUHU BEATS RICHMOND A match for the Auckland Rutrby Leagues major championship was played at Carlaw Park 011 Saturday afternoon, when Otahuhu defeated Richmond by It points to 5. Otahuhu had previously won the minor championship. There was a good attendance, but the standard of football was disappointing. Richmond ha*r shown much better form, and the team failed badly against the robust and virile Otahuhu forwards. . , . The practice of replacing players, injured or otherwise, during the interval has become a general habit at Carlaw Park and again on Saturday a change was made in the Otahuhu team. As the result of its success, Otahuhu will play Xorth Shore in the champion of champions match next Saturday. The Richmond backs were strengthened by the inclusion of R. McGregor, who has not played for some months owing to iniuries. Penalties were frequent and there was little constructive play as the result. The Otahuhu forwards put in some effective work and held a decided territorial advantage. Rerinie, the Richmond halfback, who was playing an outstanding game, received a nasty knock as the result of a late tackle by an Otahuhu forward, who was fortunate to escape any penalty. Rennie pluckily carried oil, but his sharpness was missing. Otahuhu led by 0 points (from penalty goals) to 5 at halftime. Wellm went on in place of Brady for Otahuhu in the second spell. Concentrating upon forward play, Otahuhu rarely gave Richmond a chance. The Richmond backs made efforts to take control, but indiscriminate kicking gave Otahuhu the ball. Pattillo, at fullback for Otahuhu-, was sound throughout, although he lacked the initiative of Furnell on attack. Both the wings, Keat and Simons, played with plenty of dash, particularly Ihe former, who looks certain to gain representative honours with more experience. Hi Icy kicked several splendid goals and worked well with Martin at five-eighths. Speedy gave good service at halfback. All the Otahuhu forwards shared in the victory, with Fogarty. M. Johnson and J. Johnson outstanding 1 . Rennio, the Richmond half, was easily the best back on the ground, being clever on attack. He is the most promising halfback in the code. McGregor has shown better form and his tackling was weak on occasions. Ryan and Potter were the pick of the forwards. Keat scored for Otahuhu. the try being converted by Riley, who also kicked three penalty goals. Harkins scored for Richmond, Furnell converting.
