TOWN BEATS COUNTRY

REPRESENTATIVE HOCKEY

The first representative fixture under the control of tbe Auckland Hockey Association this season was played on Saturday afternoon at Papatoetoe, when the Town representatives defeated the Country by 5 coals to 4. Country was the first to attack and iNeeley scored. Country still had the better of exchanges until the Town forwards broke through and, beatins the defence. Nunn scored. Lown kept up the pressure and forced a penalty corner .from which Lawry netted. Country replied with a sustained onslaught and only spectacular goalkeeping by Jenkins kept the Town coal intact. He was eventually beaten, however, by Andrews after a fine forward movement. Keeping up the pressure Wyatt scored two goals in quick succession to give Country a lead of 4—2 at half-time. m . .. The second spell saw the Town displaying better combination and understanding. After a bout of midfield play it made a solid effort and Lawry found the net. It was not long before Stevens netted to make the scoro even.
