TAKANINI TRACK

CALLINAN GOES WELL SOUND WORK BY GAY LALLY Final gallops at Takanini yesterday of horses engaged at tlie Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Ellerslie were carried at under adverse condiitions. 'l'he middle grass, with the poles out 15 I'eet, was used and the going was heavy. In spite of the conditions sonic attractive efforts were recorded, the principal performers being Callinan, Kronos, Gay Lally, Cambria, Landveyor, Altcso and Waiting. 'L'he Members' Handicap candidates, Callinan and Kronos, were responsible for a very fine trial over five furlongs, which they ran in 1.0. Although Callinan did not begin as smartly as lvrouos, she was with him at the finish. Callinan is in splendid order, and Kronos has improved since racing at Te Rapa, Cambria and Royal Merit were associated in a sound task over five furlongs in 1.8 2-5. Cambria, who revelled in the soft ground, was clear of his stable-mate at the finish. Although well up in the weights, Cambria should race prominently. Beginning smartly Lady Adornment led Waiting most of the way in their five-furlong gallop, but with a strong final run Waiting finished too well for the Vaals filly, to return 1.8 -1-5. Like his dam Wait and See, Waiting is quite at homo in easy goinp. Gay Lally attracted attention to his prospects in the Cornwall Handicap when he finished on very solidlv at the end of seven furlongs to beat Foxlore in 1.37 -1-5. Although only once placed in four starts this season Gay Lally has made a good deal of improvement in the last few weeks. Running home in resolute fashion, Landveyor and .Alless completed six furlongs in 1.21 1-5, easily the best of the morning at the distance. Landveyor has not raced since his unsuccessful trip to Trentham in January, but his latest track work indicates he is regaining form. Yorkish covered six furlongs in 1.24, but gave the impression he could have done better. Yorkish has not been. seen in public since he won the first division of the First Sylvia Park Handicap at the Pakuranga Hunt Cltib meeting at Ellerslie in August. On a heavy track the Man's Pal gelding won by five lengths, running the seven furlongs in 1.33 3-5. Chat money and Old Scot ran six furlonjw In 1.21. In a similar effort Beau Dink registered 1.24 2-5. British Patrol, who bears a healthy appearance, galloped a mile solidly. Regal March was going comfortably while running five furlongs In 1.10 2-5, time that was enualled by Beau Siri and Ga.v Joy. La Fillette was not hurried to return 1.11. She is in great heart for her Ellerslie engagement. Katie Scarlett, Sousa and Hunting Park were allotted useful work, with a sharp run home.
