Exceptions were a shading in Goldsbrough Mort in the first sale following the announcement of a lower year's dividend and Fletcher Holdings, support for which eased throughout the day. J. Hollowav, told the House of "Representatives. The Minister was answering a question on a strike by sugar workers at the Colonial Sugar Company's factory in Victoria. He said that the company for many years had possessed a rather dubious reputation as a monopoly which was careless of the public interest. A Victorian Labour member said industrial disputes among sugar workers in Victoria had resulted in shortened supplies, so that many people could not obtain refined sugar. He asked the Commonwealth Government to intervene in the dispute. f TAXATION CAUSES INERTIA Because extra exertion or enterprise did lot brine a full reward, with taxation at ts present level, all classes of taxpayers were ieroming subject to inertia, said the chairnan of Anthony Hordern and Sons, Ltd.. Sir Mark Sheldon, at the, annual meeting in Sydney. Industry should be agisted to relieve he shortage of civilian goods, which was keeping up the cost of living and was also n incentive to the "black market."
