ELLEESLIEJIEETING RECORD OF KAN UI TE PAI BY ABAYDOS ' The withdrawal of Findon and Jorial Hour from the Cornwall Handicap on the first day of the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday reduces the field to 29. As the safety number at the mile and a-quarter starting post is 23, it does not appear likely that the running of the race in two divisions will be avoided; The scratching of Findon, who is engaged in the Members' Handicap, six furlongs, ha; not occasioned surprise, as the grey son of Kincardine and liuinette has not raced since November, when lie won the Victory Handicap at the Napier Park Racing Club's meeting. This was Findon's fourth win in as many starts this season. Although an acceptor for the Stewards' Handicap at Te Rapa on May ID, Findon was riot a starter, and since arriving at Ellerslie he has done very little fant work. TRUE RANGE AND NOKO GOOD EFFORT AT WINGATUI (0.C.) DUNEDIN, Wednesday Heavv rain fell during training operations at Wingatui yesterday and, although the weather had cleared, most of the horses were restricted to strong work on the sand this morning. Some interesting schooling, however, was witnessed. The Invercargill-trained stablemates Trae Range <W. Hillis) and Noko (B. Mears) gave ft polished display in conditions that were not favourable for good jumping. Stewart (K. Guyton) set off with this pair, and kept company with them until the small sod wall at the seven furlongs. True Range and Noko took the last three obstacles together, both finishing strongly, with perhaps the former showing to slightly better advantage. True Range revelled in the going and, while the Ota go Steeplechase will be his first race this season, he looks read.7 for a first-class display. Half and Half (R. Page) and Phil Boa (H. Powell) crossed the same number of fences, eight in all. but were not allowed to stride along and in consequence jumped their fepcps slowly. T'ntil the final jump they had given a satisfactory display, but Half and Half dipped on landing over it and Page got hnng np by one leg. beintr dragged, upside down, for nearly a furlong before getting his foot free of the stirrup. He was swinging underneath the horse for a few strides, but fortunately Half and Half has a quiet disposition, otherwise the consequences might have proved fatal.
