Although Mr Mawson said there would be-no conflict he did not elaborate, and it was desirable that a plan should be drawn up so that those concerned knew where they were. Mr A. .1. Dickson said he felt the intention for the regional planning authority was to prepare a broad plan on a small scale which would provide a framework on which the region would he developed. It was not intended that this body should interfere with the town planning of individual local authorities. Mr Bailey said the committee should hold up its plans until the position was clarified.

A sub-committee consisting of Messrs Bailey. Dickson and I. J Goldstine was appointed. Following the conference a meeting of local body representatives will he held, when the position will he explained. The question of appointing a technical staff and the consideration of estimates was deferred until after the meeting of the sub-committees.
