AWAPUNI HORSES INTERESTING JUMPING FOXIANA AND TAANE PANGO (0.C.) PALMERSTON NORTH, Monday The jumpers again provided ' the chief interest at Awapuni on Saturday, when there was some good schooling. One of the highlights was a round over the steeplechase fences by I r oxiana and Taane Pango. The galloping on the flat was done very wide out on the course proper. The ground was very heavy. Foxiana (Bowry) and Taane Pango (Midwood) started near the double in the back straight, Sedgebrae (House) following, about 50yds behind them. Sedgebrae ran off at the second of the double and soon went past Foxiana and Taane Pango, who were going steadily. Sedgebrae fell at the sod wall. Foxiana and Taane Pango just avoiding him. Foxiana was all right when he pulled up.

Minton, who ran second to Indian Sien in the steeplechase at Marton, died on Friday following internal trouble. He was owned by Mr T. Coltman, of Wellington, and was trained by C. Boyle. Minton looked like making a useful steeplechaser. Mary Jo (Carter) gave a fine display of fast jumping over four hurdles, with Sandy Cape (Millwood). Phalaria (Bowry), Lady Premier (Fagan) and Royal Regret (Miss White) were associated in a bout over four hurdles. Phalaria had too much pace for the others, but was steadied and they took the fences together. Red Glare, who was schooled over, the steeplechase course on Thursday, went once round on the flat under a nice hold. He worked well.

Rink (A. Waddell), Broiefield (S. Waddell). Hakim (Urwin) and Blanket (A. Bowness) were associated over a mile in 2.0, running the last five furlongs in 1.12 2-5. They were together at the finish, although Rink appeared to be doing be«t.

Tid-Apa was going strongly at the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.18 3-5. He ran the last three in 4H 3-ss. Beneve (Pearce) and First King (Johnston) covered seven furlongs in 1.-14. Beneve was well clear at the finish. » Solver (S. Waddell) and Slippery Jay (A. Waddell) worked at an even pace over seven furlongs in 1 .-13 3-5. Kaitoa strode over five furlongs. He is thriving and looks as well as ever he did. '

Gay Witch (Carter) and Glen Urqnhart (S. Waddell) covered five fitrlongs in 1.13 2-5. They were together at the finish. Dileas, who has been out for a conple of months, is back on the active list and looks a picture. HURDLES CANDIDATES HUNTO AND RAM iLL!ES FIT The latest arrivals at Ellerslie for the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting include the Great Northern Hurdles candidates Hunto and Ramillies. They were out working yesterday and did pacework on the sand, 'both moving freely. Hunto and Ramillies are in excellent condition and they should give a good account of themselves on Saturday. J. Winder is to ride Hunto and M. Ritchie is to ride Ramillies. Hunto won the Great Northern Hurdies last year with 10.10 and this year he ha« 11.4. Only a few horses have succeeded in winning the Great Northern Hurdles with 11.0 or over, yet Hunto is likely to be one of the ■ favourites. He was second in the Hamilton Hurdles at his last start with 11.9 and will meet bis victor. Moderate, on 81b better terms. Moderate has also reached Ellerslie in the pink of condition. The latest form of Ramillies has been good. hi< last four starts having yielded two firsts and a second. He won the Brighton Hurdies. two miles, at Ellerslie at Easter with 9.0 in :t as •_»-"» and also won ttie Te Rapa Steeplechase, about three miles, ten days ago with >u; Ramillies has 0.9 in the Great Northern Hurdles ami he is a solid stayer who should run the two and a-half miles right out. SOUTHERN JUMPER ACCEPTOR FOR THREE RACES The South Island jumper Spanish Main has three engagements on the first day of the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting at Ellerslie on Saturday, being an acceptor for the Great Northern Steeplechase, the Green Lane Steeplechase and the Hunt Club Hurdles. Present intentions are to start Spanish Main in both the Green Lane Steeplechase and the Hunt Club Hurdles. He was left in the Great Northern Steeplechase in case of any mishap to Sir Percy, who is also owned by Mr W. E. Hazlett and the estate of the late J. S. Hazlett. Spanish Main is an aged chestnut gelding by Paladin from Spanish Maid. He has run two fourths and a second in his last three starts, the second being to Rockery in the Victory Hurdles at Riccarton on, April 14. Rockery bent Spanish Main by a length and ran the two miles on a slightly holding track in 3.15. Spanish Main is trained at Riccarton by the veteran F. Holmes, well known to Aucklanders as a successful trotting trainer and reinsman before he retired from, driving fairlv recently. Holmes rode Liberator to victory in the Great Northern Hurdles and in , the Great Northern Steeplechase in 1595.
