CRICKET IN ENGLAND "VICTORY TEST" MATCH STRENGTH OF HOME ELEVEN (Reed. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 19 A "Victory Test" match between England and Australia, the nearest approach to a real cricket Test that has been played for seven years, opened at Lord's today. England's team was of peacetime strength and included eight Test players, five of whom had played in 1938 against Australia.

Hammond captained England and Hassett. who will possibly succeed Bradman as the Australian Test captain, led the Australians. The attendance was 20,000. Hammond won the to«s and decided to bat.
