INTER-ISLAND MATCH GAMES FOR AUCKLAND TEAM "Although no official decision was reached, the general impression at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Union was that the annual North v. South Island match would be played in Auckland this year," stated the chairman, Mr A. A. Baker, at last night's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Rugby Union. It was reported that the following representative fixtures had been arranged for this season:—Waikato, home and home; Wellington, home and home; King Country, at Taurnarunui; Thames Valley and Bay of Plenty. It was decided to play Waikato at Hamilton on June 4, the date of the return match to be decided later. A letter was received from the Director of Education dealing with grants made to new schools for the purchase of sports equipment. Technical high schools, ha slated, could receive a £1 for £1 subsidy for sports equipment from the incidental expenses paid to the controlling authority, which, in the case of the Avondale Technical High School, was the Auckland Education Board. The department could not undertake the provision of separate grants for sports equipment. It was resolved to refer the letter to the secondary schools' and the primary schools' unions for consideration arid a report. Applications for reinstatement from League to Rugby were received from P. G. Wadham, W. Kaihe, K. K. Penman. L. M. Harris and P. G. Ward. It was resolved to recommend to the New Zealand Union that the applications be granted. Votes of condolence were passed with the relatives of the late Lieutenant-Colonel J. G. Mulgari, Major D. O'Brien, Serireant M. Moore, anil H. Tong, F. Rogers and IC. Jeenty, members of the forces and players and officials who have been killed overseas. Sympathetic reference was also made to the death of Mr E. E. Nalder, a former chairman of the Auckland Cricket Association and a foundation member of the Eden Park Board of Trustees. Advice was received that D. Mensdes (Ponsonby) and G. Little,.iohn (Manukau) had been granted reinstatement from League to Rugby. The New Zealand Rugby Union advised that Messrs H. Frost, J. Conlan and P. Shaw had heen elected the appeal council of the union, The North Shore Club wrote stating that a player bad suffered a fractured leg in a match last Saturday and that there was no ambulance official present on the ground. It was decided to advise the club that the union regretted the circumstances and to state that the question would be taken up with the St John Ambulance public relations officer. With the consent of the Thames Valley Union, the Te Aroha Union invited the union to send two club teams to play their competition match in the Gallaher Shield series on July 7. The Te 'Aroha Union stated that it was the union's intention to invite teams from Matamata, Morririsville and Hauraki Plains to play in Te .Aroha that day. It was decided to accept the invitation.

REFUSAL OF TRANSFER REPRESENTATIVE FULLBACK The appeal lor a transfer ul K. Mr H. de Wolfe (Manukau) said there was perhaps more under the surface of the Martin case than the facts disclosed, and the Manukau Club was not prepared at this stage to grant him a transfer. The chairman, Mr J. W. Watson, said it is regretted that a player of Martin's calibre may he lost to the code, but, according to the transfer rule, Martin must stand down for a period of a year since he played hie last game for Manukau. The transfer rule was definite, and the management committee could not assist in any way to settle the difficulty. Until such time as the Manukau Club guantcd Martin's personal application, nothing could be done. In approving of several transfers, Mr I. Stonex said it would be in the interests o:f the ,code if transfers in future were approved only to weak clubs, instead of to strong clubs. C. Seymour was transferred from Richmond to Otahuhu. It was reported that the junior competitions would commence on Saturday next, and that nominations in all grades compared very favourably with lasi season. ASSOCIATION GAMES ALLOCATION OF GROUNDS The exclusion of the game of Soccer in the allocation of grounds in a number of Auckland schools was discussed at length at last evening's meeting of the control board of the Auckland Football Association, and it was decided to make a full inquiry info the matter. Advice was received that a full-sized ground was available at Seymour Park. The following transfers were approved:—J{ G. Harlow, Mount Albert Old Boys to Comrades; J. Brown, Eden to University; R. Moody, Comrades to Ponsonby; M. S. Rosser, Mount Alhert Old Boys to University. The shortage of goal-nets on a number of outside grounds was commented upon by delegate. INTER-SERVICES* MATCH The first challenge match of the Mnnro Cup was played at Blandford Park yesterday afternoon when Air Force (Whenuanai) defeated the holder. Philomel, by four clear goals. The first spell was evenly contested and the Rides changed over with no score. In the second spell Rutherford set Philomel going and Air Force was hard pressed, hut the latter gradually worked into a goal-scoring combination, which, toward the end, outplayed the Philomel defence. The scores were — \|r Force (Whenuapai), 4 (Hope Kde 2. Wilkinson 1, Miller 1); Philomel, 0. The early game, between Watersiders and a Navy B team, resulted in a draw,' 3-all.
