GEORGE'S DAY SERVICE AT CATHEDRAL The need for the representatives of the various nations, both at the San Francisco conference and at the peace conference, to endeavour to rebxiild the world upon a rock foundation and not one of sand, was emphasised by Archbishop Averill, who was the preacher at St. Mary's Cathedral yesterday morning at the annual parade and service in honour of St. George's Day. There was a parade from Newmarket to the Cathedral in which members of the Royal Society of St. George and other organisations took part. Archbishop Averill pointed out that Britain, with her great past and even greater present, and with her consciousness of something more than chance or accident behind her long history, was morally bound to take her stand upon principles which had made her the power that she was to the world.

"It is my honest conviction that if England remains true to her best self and puts service to mankind before selfaggrandisement she, with the help . of her Allies, will really lay the foundation of a more peaceful, more united md happier world," the archbishop said.
