TROTTING AT EPSOM ADAMS MEMORIAL CONTEST BY ABAYDOS The success achieved by horses from the stable of F. J. Smith at Epsom last week-end will bring them jnto prominence for their engagements at the autumn meeting on Saturday. Medical Student, winner of the Churdhill Handicap, and Volo Senwod, who scored in the Montgomery Handicap, are acceptors in both the Adams Memorial Handicap and the Cornwall Handicap. Medical Student, who has impro7ed witi. racing, should go well off the limit of tht Adams Memorial Handicap and his moai difficult rival may be his stable-mate. Vole Senwod, from 48 yards. Both pacers are iii excellent condition to run a very sound tw< miles. Sabu, who was third in the Montgomerj Handicap, is nicely placed in the Adam? Memorial Handicap and in his present gooc condition is likely to race prominently. Black Label, a genuine stayer, has distinct possi bilities. Two newcomers, Highland Scott and Jack's Pal. should add interest. The former has pus up some fine performances at Epsom for L F. Berkett, who again has the speedy U Scott pacer in hand. Although he has not won this season •Jack's Pal has run some sound races. At "Addington in August he finished fourth in the Speedway Handicap, going 4.24, the winner trusty Scott, recording 4.23 2-5. On the same course last month Jack's Pal was third to In the Mood and Warform in the Express Handicap, going 4.25 1-5. Bieads separated the three horses. Form of Double Peter Double Peter, who has won four times in his last five starts, is on 84 yards, and, while his task looks very difficult, he cannot be overlooked. At the recent Addington meeting Double Peter won the Easter Handicap in 4.17 2-5 and the Champion Pacing Free-for-■All in 2.37 3-5.

War Guard may have the best prospects of the remainder. In a good pool fancies may be Volo Senwod, Highland Scott, Jack's Pal and Black Label.

With the exception of War Guard, tht ■Adams Memorial Handicap horses are also en gaged in the shorter Cornwall Handicap in which there are several newcomers, includ ing the successful Ngaire's Pal and the con sietent Hillcrest.

. From 36 yards Double Peter should be ver* difficult to keep out of the money, although h'< may find Volo Senwod, 24 yards, hard t< beat. Medical Student displayed fine sprin form at Hawera and has srood prospect's of the limit.

Sabu is entitled to respect after his effor last Saturday, while Te Eoto is likely to b. improved. iA scood beginner, Te Roto makes f strong appeal from the front line. On Hawer;and Awapuni form, Ngaire'e Pal must hav. a fine chance.

Jack s Pal has shown marked ability at t. mile and a-quarter and his prospects art bngiii'. Hillcrest, Black Label and Jack Hist will have followers. In a wide range ihf favourites may be Medical Student. Donblf Peter, Xgaire's Pal and Te Roto. Good Class Trotters

A fine field of trotters will contest the Pro vincial Handicap, in which there is only 72 yards between the limit horses and the backmarker, Sure Lady. The Canterbury mare has been produced five times at Epeom' for three wins and two seconds. Her outstanding per formance was in winning the Tamaki Handi cap at the summer meeting by ten lengths from Willie Winkie, Sure Lady wa3 giving Willie Winkie 30 yards start but, with a bad break at the sis furlongs, she was standing the Ashhurst trotter up about 60 yards over the last five furlongs, to win easily in 4.32. Steel King won the Brideens Memorial Handirap and was second in the Rowe Memorial Handicap at the same meeting, and his form this season has been consistently good. Robie, Forewarned and Modest Maid represent good class and should add interesL to the race. Great Surprise is speedy, but appears lacking in stamina. Paul Parrisn showed a return to form at Addington last month, when he ran second to Sea Gem and held off Steel King, who was third off 60 yards. Echoist, except for his poor showing in Febrnary, has put up good performances at Epeom, especially when the track is firm. At the spring meeting Cockney ran two solid seconds, and, if back to' that form, should go well. Silver Countess appears to be regaining her best form and Willie WiEkie is in good condition. In an even field the | favourites may be Sure Lady, Willie Winkie. Echoist and Steel King. HAWKER BAY FIELDS SECOND DAY ACCEPTANCES (P.A.)
