SCHOOL BOARDERS
INCREASE IN COSTS (0.C.) NELSON, Friday The boarding establishments at the Nelson Boys' and Girls' Colleges last year were run at a loss of £4OO. This figure was given by the chairman. Mr C. R. Fell, at a meeting of the college council when showing how costs had advanced during the past few years. The amount paid out for provisions at the hoys' college boarding department last year was £8196 against £6564 in 1939. In the same period the wages bill at the college increased from £3444 to £4203. The position at the girls' college was very much the same, the figures being as follows, those for 1939 being shown in parentheses:—Provisions, £2396 (£1796); wages, £l9lO (£1317). "Boarding fees, he said, had been increased_ and were expected to bring in an additional £ISOO, but this would be almost entirely offset by the past year's deficit and increased w&gea to be* paid to the domestic staffs.
