ARMED FORCES APPEALS
MANY CASES REVIEWED WORK OF AUCKLAND BOARDS Cases totalling 1117 were determined during March by the two armed forces appeal boards in Auckland, which are reviewing the circumstances of category A men held on appeal in industry with the object of finding replacements for soldiers who have served more than three years overseas. Regular sittings are at present being conducted in Auckland on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, when as many as 100 cases are dealt with at one session. The appeals are being reviewed industry by industry and reservists who appeared before the boards last month were confined mainly to engineers, farmers, plumbers, brickmakers and members of city and suburban fire brigades. Of the total of 1117 cases dealt with, 18.'? were dismissed outright or withdrawn. 175 were dismissed subject to a time condition, one was allowed, 742 were, adjourned sine die on public interest and undue hardship grounds, and 16 were struck out or adjourned on medical grounds.
