BOWLING PROPERTY Whangarei Purchase. —A decision to purchase a house property at a price of £I7OO was made at a meeting of the Kensington Bowling Club. The property lies between the old greens of the club and the recently-acquired area on which new greens have been laid ; down, it will give the club a compact area of nearly one and a-half acres. The purchase price is subject to the consent of the Lands Sales Committee. TODAY'S SPORT The Rugby League season will be opened in Auckland this afternoon, when the first series of championship matches will be de* cided at Carlaw Park. The main attraction will he the match between Otahuhu and Mount. Albert at 3 o'clock. City and Marist will meet in the curtain-raiser. Other matches are between Richmond and Point Chevalier and North Shore and Manukau on the No. 2 ground. The keel and mullet boat classes will take part, in a cruising race to Ostend. All events will start off King's Wharf. CORD CHOKES SOLDIER BRISBANE, April 5 An American soldier, Sergeant Robert A. Hill, was found dead at Hamilton, Brisbane. It is believed that he had been strangled by the cord of a haversack he was wearing on his back. It is thought that, as lie fell and lav inert, the cord tightened round his neck and choked him.
