WELLINGTON, Thursday As a supplier of foodstuffs to United States forces in the Pacific N e Zealand had played and wouldcontinue to play a most important part So ;a Major-General F. Gilbreath. o f' the United States Army, who has arrived in New Zealand for a brief visit. He ' commanding general of the South'P«m, Base Command. 1 In a tribute to the way in which New Zealand had responded to the call* for supplies for the American forces in the Pacific, General Gilbreath said: "\v' are still getting large quantities of you', dairy and meat products, which an helping to feed our men in the forwarci areas. As the war progresses in the Pacific, and with the arrival of British forces here, those supplies will have to be maintained. New Zealand jjuist fill a vital place in the world production nl foodstuff*." General Gilbreath was particularly impressed with the efficiency with which repair shops in New Zealand were repairing and reconditioning army motor vehicles damaged in service. "Your shops are doing some very fine work " he said. "All sorts of vehicles are coming here for attention and are beinu factory overhauled."
