After his return to New Zealand Canon Averill was on a sheep station and later in business in Auckland, when he entered St. John's Theological College. He graduated B.A. in 1923, and in the same year he was ordained deacon and appointed curate at Cambridge. He was made priest in 1924, and two years later was, appointed vicar of Hauraki Plains.

Appointed a member of the standing committee of the diocese in 1938, Canon Averill has taken an active interest in many organisations. He was organiser of the Auckland Diocesan Churchmen's Association and- a member of the Diocesan Youth Council, the Cathedral Chapter, and the Auckland branch of the Student Christian Movement. For some years he was chairman of the Council of Christian Congregations, and he has taken a prominent part in the Campaign for Christian Order. A founder of the Crusade for Social Justice, Canon Averill is Dominion ricepresident of this body.

COMFORTS FOR CHILDREN (0.C.) MORRIXSVILLE, Monday As the result of a successful social held by the Morrinsville branch of the Sharemilkers' Union a profit of £3l was made. It was decided to donate this sum to the Waikato HospitaJ Board to be spent on comforts for children in tin hospital.
