SUSPICIOUS FIRE

MOTOR-CAR BURNED EXPLOSION IN GARAGE A motor-car was destroyed by a fire which occurred in suspicious stances in a garage at 8 Entrican Avenue, Remuera, in the early hours of Sunday morning. The car was the property of Flight-Lieutenant P. T. Curran and was not insured. It was valued at £2OO. . ' Shortly after 3.30 a.m. Flight-Lieu-tenant Curran was awakened by the sound of an explosion, and on investigation found that the garage, which was built into a bank at the front of his property a few yards below ;he house, was in flames. The outbreak was attended by the IJemuera fire brigade, bu* nothing could be done to save the C£l When the flames were suppressed it was discovered that the doors of the garage had been forced open and an attempt made to siphon petrol from the car. Two cans of benzin° which did not belong to Flight-Lieutenant Curran were found. Two men were later taken into custody by the police.

DEATH AFTER ACCIDENT WOMAN STRUCK BY TRAM An elderly woman who was struck by a tranicar in Newton on December 4 died in the Auckland Hospital on Saturday evening. She was Mrs Kate Franiecevic, aged 75, wife of Mr G. Franiecevic, of 37 Wellington Street, City.

Mrs Franiecevic was knocked down as she was crossing Karangahape Road near the corner of West Street, suffering concussion and a possible fracture of the skull.

HAMILTON, Monday While out shooting in a swamp near Otorohanga this evening, Maurice James Cnisholm,_ aged 16, of Otewa, Otorohanga, received a pea-rifle bullet in the head. Dr A. A. MacFarlane was called and he had to wade into the swamp to attend to him. He was removed to the Waikato Hospital in a serious condition. BOY TRIPS WITH RIFLE BULLET ENTERS THIGH A 14-year-old boy, Bruce Charles Davidson, son of Mrs E. M. Davidson, of Woodhill, was admitted to the Auckland Hospital last night suffering from a gunshot wound. The boy was on a shooting, expedition when he tripped and the rifle he was carrying discharged; the bullet entering his left thigh. His condition last night was not serious. PEDESTRIAN INJURED Knocked down by a motor-car in Great South Road, Otahuhu, shortly before 10.30 on Sunday night, Mr William C. Morrin, aged 63, married, of 243 Ponsonby Road, suffered concussion. IHe was admitted to the Green Lane Hospital. GIRL STRUCK BY CAR Concussion and a possible fracture of the skull were suffered by Nancy Rita Glavas, aged five, daughter of Mrs P. Glavas, of 66 Victoria Street, City, when she was struck by a motor-car in the vicinity of Hobson Street on Saturday morning. She was removed to the Auckland Hospital.

BOY SUFFERS CONCUSSION A boy, aged 12, Ronald Maxwell Beckett, son of Mr E. H. Beckett, of Edmonton Road, Henderson, suffered concussion and abrasions when he fell from his bicycle in Great North Road, Henderson, last evening. He was admitted to the Auckland Hospital in a fairly serious condition. SOLDIER IN COLLISION <O.C.) HAMILTON, Monday A soldier, K. Attwood, of Cook Street, Hamilton East, was knocked off his bicycle as the result of a collision at the corner of Kent Street and Norton Road, Frankton, this evening. He was admitted to the Waikato Hospital with head injuries, but his condition was not serious. FALL FROM BALCONY (0.C.) HAMILTON, Monday Severe head injuries were received by Anthony Gray, aged five, son of Mr H. Gray, Beatty Street, Melville, last night when he fell from the balcony of the Frankton Hotel. The child was admitted to the Waikato Hospital in a serious condition. CAR STRIKES POST (0.C.) HAMILTON. Monday When a motor-car driven by LeadingAircraftman Owen Trevor Woolley, of Te Rapa, came into collision with a telegraph post on the main south road near the Fairfield Bridge on Saturday night, a passenger, Miss M.
