OFFICERS' GOOD RECORDS QUALITIES OF LEADERSHIP Recently appointed to take charge of an organisation in a south-eastern district of England to receive New Zealand Army prisoners of war on their arrival from Germany, Major-General H. Iv. Kippenberger, D.S.O. and bar, lost botli feet in March last as the result of a mine explosion while commanding the Second Division, Second N.Z.E.F.. at Cassino. Before enlisting in Christchurch in September, 1939, Major-General Kippenberger served for two years and a-half with the First N.Z.E.F. and 14 years with the New Zealand Territorial Force. He sailed with tiie First Echelon of the Second N.Z.E.F.. was promoted brigadier in 1941 and was subsequently awarded the D.S.O. and mentioned in despatches for service in the Balkan campaign. After being seriously wounded in Italy, Major-General Kippenberger was transferred to England to convalesce and, as he described it. "to get new feet." Brigadier L. M. Inglis, D.S.O. and bar. M.C.. Y.D.. has been in command of the Fourth Brigade and was in command of the New Zeaalnd Division with the temporary rank of major-general during tlie time that Lieutenant-Gen-eral Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C., was recovering from a wound, and also while General Freyberg was visiting New Zealand. He has been through the campaigns with the New Zealand forces in the Middle East.

Both Brigadier Weir, and bar, and Brigadier Querec, 0.8. E., are officers of the Royal New Zealand Artillery and have been stationed at Auckland. Brigadier Weir graduated from the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and' Brigadier Querec from the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. and both have been decorated for their high qualities of leadership and skill in the fighting in the Middle East. Major K. B. Myers is the only son of Lady Myers and the late Sir Arthur Mvers. He went overseas in September. 1941. Miss M. E. Jackson, of Auckland, was educated at Auckland Girls' Grammar School and Auckland University College. She has been overseas nearly five years and since November. 1943, lias been matron of No. 3 New Zealand General Hospital, Second N.Z.E.F., Middle East Forces. She was made an Associate of the Royal Red Cross in August for distinguished service in Italy. SCHOOL'S CONTRIBUTION A donation of £65 from the pupils of the Epsom Girls' Grammar School has been received by the Mayor, Mr J. A. C. Allum, toward the 1944 patriotic appeal. The total contributed by this school to the fund this year lias amounted to £315. and altogether the school has raised and disbursed £515 during the year. Donations have been made to the relief of liberated countries, to Chinese refugees and to other causes. The Mayor paid a tribute to the splendid patriotic effort of the girls of the school*
