NO MINDORO FIGHTING MORE GAINS ON LEYTE (Reed. 9.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 19 There is still no sign of any Japanese attempt to land troops on Mindoro Island. The Philippines communique reports that American forces are meeting no ground opposition. Enemy planes attacking Mindoro positions were intercepted by American fighter patrols, which shot down 13 for the loss of one American plane. On Leyte Island, the American 77th Division has taken Valencia, six miles north of Ormoc, and is pushing northward, rolling up the remnants of the Yamashita line. The Valencia airfield was captured intact, and is already in use. The Ist Cavalry Division seized Lonoy. Patrols in the mountains are mopping up isolated enemy detachments attempting to escape to the west coast. On Monday the enemy abandoned 1484 dead. Twenty-two prisoners were taken.
