MINER'S COMPENSATION
Compensation has been allowed by Mr Justice o'Regan to a Maori miner, Thompson Cook, of Waihi (Mr Sullivan), in his claim against the Martha Gold Mining Co. (Waihi), Ltd. Mr Hore). The plaintiff claimed that he had been disabled by a hernial injury on April 19 last, and he admitted that he had an older hernia dating from July of the previous year. His Honor said he must regard the plaintiff's case as proved, and he awarded £55 18s 6d compensation for the period of incapacity. Plaintiff would also be allowed £ll lis costs and witnesses' expenses.
MAN FOUND DEAD A retired butcher, Mr William Davis, aged 63, of 9 Valley Roadj Mount Eden, was found dead with a rifle beside the body, at his home early yesterday morning. At about 4.30 his wife heard a shot and called neighbours, who found the body of Mr Davis Li the washhouse. An inquest was opened and adjourned after evidence of identification had been given.
