URGENT NEED OF ROOMS
MOUNT ALBERT PLUNKET Appreciation of the generosity of Mr W. R. Atwell, New North Road, in making part of his premises available for Plunket work in the district during the past year was expressed by the president, Mrs L. C. H. Dawson, at the first meeting of the newly-formed Mount Albert sub-branch of the Auckland Plunket Society. In reviewing the year's work, Mrs Dawson stressed the urgent need to secure adequate Plunket rooms in the district as soon as possible. The nurse sent regularly by Auckland headquarters had been working under the greatest difficulties all the year, and pre-school work among Mount Albert children had been at a standstill owing to the fact that there was no accommodation available for the purpose of examining them. In order to raise funds for securing and furnishing suitable rooms where the work could be properly carried out, arrangements were made to hold a fair early in March, 1945. Conveners were appointed for the various stalls, and it is hoped that women's organisations in the district as well as Plunket mothers will give every assistance to the committee. Mrs Dawson reported that for the year ended March 31, 1944, 5302 mothers and babies had visited the Plunket centre on Mr Atwell's premises and 661 visits had been made to homes in the district.
