ELLERSLIE TRAINING BRITISH MINT GOES FREELY A smart five furlongs by Rara Avis and a solid six furlongs by British Mint and Billy Peach were features of the work at Ellerslie yesterday. The poles were out 55ft on the course proper and the going was good. Several candidates for the Mitchelson Cup were among the workers, but they were not required to do their best. Kara Avis (Gibbs), after running the first two in 255, completed five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. He has freshened up nicely since racing at Paeroa and went well for his very light rider. Verdant (Hooton) rail five furlongs in 1.0 2-5, the first two in 25 3-ss. Verdant is small but he is speedy British Mint (JBagby) and Billv Peach (Gibbs) ran six furlongs in 1.20 *l-5, the first three in 40 l-ss. They were together .throughout. British Mint going the easier at the finish. British Mint had the worse of the weights, hut he had the inside running. The two-year-old Balmore (Gibbs) ran the best half-mile when he defeated General Lytup (Markwick) by several lengths in 51 l-ss. Balmore is by Coronach from Canvasser, and he ran unplaced in the Pioneer Handicap, won by .Royal Slippet. at the Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting last month. Sir Dink (Williamson) strode over six furlongs in 1.24, going evenly throughout. He looks very well. British Talent (C. Markwick) was slightly better than Our Gold (Gibbs) over a mile in 1.51 1-5. Sir Dingle (Brett) was timed to run six furlongs in 1.24 1-5. Hackenschrnidt went well. Sir Isaacs (Hogan) gave a good display over four hurdles. He appears to have improved with recent racing. HAMILTON, Tuesday As the result of a sound gallop over a round at Te Rapa this morning Sir Standfast made friends for his Mitchelson Cup engagement at Ellerslie on Saturday. Colonel ■ Vaals was responsible for a very attractive five furlongs and Craven also impressed. The flags were out 45ft on the course proper and the going was dead. Sir Standfast was going better than Town Survev over a round in 2.4 4-5. the last seven furlongs in 1.34 4-5. Highland View ran four furlongs in 52 l-5s Colonel Vaals shaded Craven at the end of five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, with Come True some lengths away. The first three were run in 375. and the four in 51 2-ss. Colonel Vaals is in good heart and Craven would only require to repeat his track work to win races. Bueno was responsible for an attractive effort over seven furlongs in 1.3214 being assisted over the first six by Grey Salute and Kitty Green in I.IS 4-5. the best of the morning over the distance. Foxwyn shaded Marinuto and Acremari at the end of six furlongs in 1.21%, the first four in 53 2-ss. Foxwvn is bearing a healthy appearance. Hunting Loch ran five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. Phaieron Sign, under restraint, beat Koura Eka over seven furlongs in 1.39 1-5. the lastsix in 1.25. Varuna and Extra, after running to the half-mile in 53 4-ss. took 1.22 1-5 to complete six furlongs. Brown Night and Jovia Princess galloped five furlongs in 1.9. Royal Musk and Prince Baffles ran once round in 2.11. the first half-mile taking 57 4-5s Gold Spot and Bisquit were sent over nine fences of the steeplechase course to give s dashing display. Night Comedy and Sir Grant jumped the two hurdles down the back twice in fine stvle. Night Comedy is very fit. Quination shaped well in a task over three hurdles
