FUTURE STRATEGY
MORE TAI.KS EXPECTED CHURCHILL AND ROOSEVELT NEW YORK, Aug. 13 Observers believe that another conference between Mr Churchill and President Roosevelt may be expected soon as the logical outcome of Mr Roosevelt's recent talks in the Pacific, says the New York Times correspondent in Washington. The correspondent adds that it is felt that the task of laying the groundwork for future British-American cooperation against Japan was given much more emphasis at the Pearl Harbour conference between Mr Roosevelt and Pacific military leaders than the despatches have indicated. It is generally assumed that all major moves pending in the Pacific war area in the next few months have long been definitely scheduled and that the recent talks rna,y have preliminary to long-tem strategy discussions. Future strategy, the correspondent savs. will depend on the follriVing. factors: —(1) On the date of the end of the European war. (2) The extent of the British-American seapower, airpower and troops that can then be released for service in the Pacific, (3) The time it will take to transfer them to the Pacific. (4} How best to supply the forces. (5) Whether to weld the British and Americans into joint operating units or give them separate combat, areas. Some observers say they think that the Pearl Harbour meeting was General Mac Arthur's big chance to present the argument that the best road to Japan is by way of the Philippines instead of the more direct route to Japan proper, or bv way of China. NEW SPANISH MINISTER MADRID, AUK. 12 Senor .lose l,e Quierjca. former Spanish Ambassador to Vichy, has been, appointed Foreign Minister in succession. to the late General Jordana.
