Speaking at Gosford, New South Wales, Mr Harclay said there were now no trade rivalries between the two count l ies. "Mr Barclay is to be commended on the statement," Mr Turner said, "lie also dealt very properly with the old argument about potatoes and oranges. It is foolish to raise trade barriers between two neighbour countries, almost as foolish a.s would be the imposition of trade barriers between the North and South Islands of New Zealand. Our federation fee's thai New Zealand and Australia should co-operate closely in all matters of trade." Mr Turner recalled that 20 years ago there had been substantial trading between the two countries, but in the intervening years differences had boon allowed to creep in.
