COMMODORE JUPP TRIBUTE BY GOVERNMENT TWO AUCKLAND GATHERINGS As a tribute from the Government to Commodore S. 1). Jupp, former commandant of the United States Naval Operating Base at Auckland, the presentation of a Maori-carved smokers' stand, a large cigarette box made from New Zealand wood, adorned with a beautifully carved tuatara lizard, and a New Zealand rug, was made by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, yesterday afternoon. The presentation was made at a dinner party at the Station Hotel, when the Minister entertained the commodore. Mr. Jones referred to the splendid relations established in New Zealand by Commodore Jupp. In expressing his thanks for the gifts, the commodore commented on the co-operation lie had always received from the New Zealand Government, which had made his work considerably easier. "Our idenl.s are the same as yours, and we are always going to fight side by side to preserve them." said Commodore Jupp, when members of the Auckland Harbour Board bade him farewell at an informal gathering yesterday. Although it had been said that the Americans had kept the enemy away from the Dominion, that had been due also to the New Zealand troops, who were held in high regard by the United States fighting men. He thanked the board for its co-operation, and said that, although he had heard no complaints, he knew that the Americans had caused problems which, however, had always lieen cheerfullv met.

OLD BOYS' REUNION MOUNT ALBERT GRAMMAR A memorial sorvice held in the school hall for the 144 old boys killed in this war opened the annual reunion of the Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys' Association yesterday afternoon. A large number of old boys were welcomed bv the headmaster, Mr. F. W. Gamble, and were addressed by the president of the association. Mr. 1). Sunnier. A school Rugby team beat an old boys' team by ID to 7; the old boys won a hockey match by 6 to 2; and a Soccer match by 2 to 1. The annual smoke concert will be held in the school hall to-night, and a church service will be held at St. Luke's Church. Mount Albert, to-morrow.
