OBITUARY

MR. H. F. C. PEARSON " (0.C.) THAMES, Thursday The death has occurred of Mr. Hans Peter Christian Pearson, aged 68, who was associated with much of the development of the Hauraki Plains, He arrived in Auckland from Denmark as a young mail and after employment by the Auckland Harhcur Board joined the Lands Department as engineer ia charge of dredging work in the Hauraki Plains drainage scheme. After 20 years of this work he retired several years ago. The Under-Secretary of Lands then stated that he had helped to a very large extent in bringing into production a large area of fertile land. He is survived by his wife. ME. G. R. 0. MULHOLLAND (0.C.) THAMES, Thursday The death has occurred of Mr. George Richard Onslow Mulholland, aged 54, former postmaster at Pukekohe. Mr. Mulholland was to hare taken up the position of chief postmaster in Thames on April 3, but illness prevented him from doing so. Bom at Havelock, he had 38 years' service, having been at Takapau, Waver lev ana Dannevirke, in addition to Pukekohe. He served in the last war, gaining the Military Medal. He is survived by his wife, two sons in the Air Force, and two young daughters. MRS. C. E. 6RIF3PIN The death has occurred of Mrs. Cecilia Eliza Griffin, of Epsom, aged 96. Born in Newport, \\ ales. Mrs. Griffin came to New Zealand with/her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Evans, in the ship Blue Jacket in 1861. She lived with them at Brooklyn, Manukau Harbour, during the Maori Wars and was there when H.M.S. Orpheus was wrecked. After the family had moved to Ruatangata, Northland, ske_ married the late Mr. 11. Griffin, a pioneer farmer of that district, in which they lived on the same farm tor 40 years. Mrs. Griffin came to Epsom after the death of her husband. She is survived by three sons and one daughter, and there are 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. MRS. F. J. POTTER The death has occurred at her residence, 138 Peary Road. Mount Eden, of Mrs. Jane Potter, wife of Mr. F. J. Potter. Born at Bannockburn, Scotland, in 1866, Mrs. Potter accompanied her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Barclay, to New Zealand in 1576 and the family, took up residence at Ramaraina. During 52 years of married life, Mr. and Mrs. Potter lived in Auckland, except for 11 years at Waihi. Mrs. Potter took an active part in the work of the Presbyterian Church and the Womens Christian Temperance Union. She is survived by her husband- There are three grandchildren and one great-, grandchild. VETERINARY SERVICE

DARGAVILLE, Thursday The directors of the Northern Wairoi Co-operative Dairy Company, were recently informed that a number 1 ' of English veterinarians will be available for service in tlie Dominion and that first preference for these appointments will go to existing clubs. Lie directors immediately formed a club and affiliated with the Dominion lederation of Farmers' Veterinary Services.
