TO-DAY'S SPORT
EIGHT-OAR ROWING CONTEST . Considerable interest is being centred in the eight-oar rowing race this afternoon at Westhaven between crews of the Mount Albert Grammar School and Wanganui Technical College. The event will commence at four o'clock. Mr. C. C. Cairns will be starter and empire, and Mr. C- H. Herdinan will be judge. Mr. C. H. Wilson, a master, is in charge of the Wangariui crew, while the coach is Mr. C. A. Healey. a former champion oarsman. Also accompanying the visiting crew is' Mr. W. Stoddart, a former New Zealand cox. The Mount Albert crew is coached by Messrs. D. G. Stotter and E. Craies. The distance of the race is three-quarters of a mile. -Several Rugby practices will be held as a preliminary to the opening of the season next Saturday. Marist and Ponsonby will play a •Natch at Sacred Heart College. The second Writ's of Rugby League preliminaries will be contested at Carlaw Park. The chief game is aii 4ll Richmond and Ponsonby. while Mount Albert and Point Chevalier will meet in the c«rtain-raiser. The Soccer season will be Opened at Blandford Park, where Navy Depot make a reappearance against Eastern SuDurbs in the main game. The curtain-raiser be between Ponsonby and Comrades BOWLING FINAL Mount Albert Club.—The final of the pairs tourney was won by P. Stone and R. Hawthorne (Balmoral), who beat Pjlcher and Brady (Ponsonby). 5—2. Only five heads *'®re played AMERICAN FOOTBALL Football teams from two visiting American Regiments will plav a match at. Bledisloo Park, Pukekohe, this afternoon, commencing ft two o'clock. The squad rosters will include names of many gridiron "greats" of recent years. Co-operating with local officials bi staging the game are the American Red Cross and the Special Services department of ;he visiting division.
