AUCKLAND EXCHANGE GOVERNMENT STOCKS RISE An especially keen demand existed for Government stocks on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday and several parcels were transferred at higher rates, after which sellers dropped out. The second Liberty Loan 3 per cent and the 1956-59 3\ per cent issues were transferred at new high levels. Dominion industrials were strongly supported and new peaks were established for Brace Woollen and Gear Meat. Higher offers were made for Goldsbrough Mort and for Devon port: Steam, with no response from holders. National Insurances were easier.

SSales after hours on Wednesday. NATIONAL MORTGAGE LONDON. April 19 The National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, after contributing £4799 to the staff superannuation and provident fund, made a not profit of £l7 799 for the year ended September 30. The sum of £14,837 was brought, forward. The year's dividend of 5 per cent, tax-free (unchanged), absorbs £17.079, leaving £15.557 to be carried forward. The profit compares with £1(5,885 in previous year and £10.434 in 1941. ihe dividend has been steady since 193/. when it was 7/2 per cent ROLLER MILLS YEAR •'With the present very high rate of taxation coupled with our controlled method of trading, it is practically impossible for the company to earn sufficient to pay what is considered a fair and reasonable commercial dividend," said the chairman. Mr. J. B. Donald, at yesterday's annual meeting of the Northern Roller Milling Company. While the gross profit was slightly higher than for the previous year, the net result, he said, was not sufficient to allow of a higher dividend than 2% per cent without drawing upon the company's undivided profits as had been done in the past three years. Owing to war conditions expenditure had been heavier than usual. It had been anticipated that the ne'v silo would be in full use during the whole of the trading period, but owing to freight shortages it was not until late in October that it could be filled to capacity. The directors hoped for better results in the current year, but with so many adverse circumstances to contend with there was little likelihood of much better returns. The retiring directors, Sir Cecil Leys and Mr A. St, Clair Brown, were re-elected. IMPORT LICENCES The Customs Department advises that it has been decided to grant.- licences for the importation of linoleum, including felt base linoleum, from Canada and the United States to the extent of 50 per cent of the value of the applicants' imports of such goods from all sources in 1938. Applications for licences to import keyhole ties for wool baling will be considered. HAMILTON, Thursday An extra large yarding of fat sheep and an increased number of fat. lambs were penned at the Prankton stock sale. Values for both ox and cow beef showed a decided drop. Baconers and porkers sold on a par with recent rates and the demand for store and weaner pigs was steady.
