FURLOUGH WEDDING WALTERS—THORNE The Salvation Army Citadel, Christchurch, was'recently the scene of tie wedding of Miss Mona Janet Thorne, second daughter of Major and Mrs. I. Thorne, of Christchurch, to Lieutenant Ivan Stanley Walters, M.C., Second N.Z.E.F. (on furlough), e dost son of Mr F. Walters, of Auckland. Major Thorne officiated, and during the service a solo was sung by Mrs. Thelma Stanton. . , The bride, who was given away by Colonel Walters, D.5.0., wore a charming trained gown of ivory, embroidered satin, with a striped satin redingote. Her tulle veil was held in place by a coronet of small begonias, and her bouquet was of white Imperial lilies. Her sister, Mrs. Vida Sutcliffe, attended her as matron of _ honour an d the bridesmaids were Miss Joan Thorne and Miss Elva Walters, sisters of the bride and bridegroom respectively. All wore frocks made with blue velvet bodices and bouffant skirts of cream net,.and all carried bouquets of blue delphiniums and cream gladioli to match their headdresses. The best man was Corporal R. V. Walters and the groomsmen were Lieutenant A. H. Empson, M.M., and Private R. Robinson, both on furlough. The reception after the ceremony was held at the Quality Inn, Clft-istchurch. FIFTY YEARS MARRIED Well known in the district in which they have lived for many years, Mr. an d Mrs. P. C. White, Kohimarama Road, will celebrate their golden wedj ding this evening by a gathering of I intimate friends and relatives in the Berkeley lounge, Mission Bay. The celebration anticipates the actual date, as the wedding took place on March 13, 1894, at the Bible Christian Church, Broken Hill, Australia. Mrs. White, who was formerly Miss Laura Elizabeth Oke, was born at Laura, South Australia, but Mr. White is a New Zealander, born at Whareine, in the Kaipara district, in 1808. After their marriage Mr. White lived at Broken Hill for about nine years before returning with his wife to Auckland, where they have lived ever since. In his younger days Mr. White was a keen cricketer, a member of the_ Ponsonby team, and distinguished himself in the Auckland eleven in the opening match against the Marvlebone Cricket Club's team in 1906. In more recent years he took up bowls with equal enthusiasm, being from 1914-16 president of the St.- Heliers Bowling Club, of which he was lately made a life member. Though now in his 76th year he is still activelv associated with the contract business established by his father under the name of Sam White and Sons. Mr. and Mrs., White have five daughters and two sons.
