BOY BATHER'S FATE (0.C.) WANG ANUI. Tuesday A search was made to-day along the bench at CastleelilF for the body of a boy who lost his life yesterday while bathing in the surf about a chain north of the band rotunda Ho was Eric Kirkby, aged 17 _ years, whose parents live at Kaitoke,
Kirkby, who recently joined the. auxiliary staff of the fire brigade at CastleclifT, went to the beach with another youth, Gilbert Hurley. They had a swim and about 3.45 p.m. entered the surf for the second time. Neither was a strong swimmer and Kirkby suddenly disappeared. Hurley made an attempt at rescue, but could do little. He then rang the alarm bell and a search was made without success. DEATH AFTER ACCIDENT (0.C.) WHANGAREI, Tuesday The death occurred in the Ivawale uv a Hospital to-day of Mr. Rivers Loo, of Park Avenue, Takapuna. Mr. Loo, who was aged 74, was seriously injured yesterday when he was struck by a delivery van while leaving the Kawakawa railway station. lie was on a visit to Russell at the time. Au inquest was opened before the district coroner, Mr. T. J. V. Dunlop, to-day, and adjourned after evidence of identification.
