VALUELESS CHEQUES
THREE CHARGES ADMITTED Three charges of obtaining goods and money of a total value of £3o. by means of valueless cheques, were admitted by a salesman and hairdresser, Jjeslie Alfred John Walters, aged 41, before Mr. W. C. Harley, S.M., yesterday. Detective-Sergeant Aplin said the offences, which were all similar, were committed at Waihi, Kotorua and Waiuku, accused representing himself once as a well-known farmer and twice as a jockey. The goods had not been recovered, but. £lO 16s of the money was in accused's possession when ho was arrested. "He is an habitual offender and addicted to liquor," said Mr. Aplin. "He has a formidable list of previous convictions, having appeared before the Court on 48 occasions since 1925. Nearly nil his offences have been concerned with the issue of valueless cheques." The magistrate convicted accused and remanded him for sentence until Friday morning.
