TEACHING OF PHYSICS
UNIVERSITY COURSES A return to the teaching of pure physics to stage three and honours standards wa.s recommended yesterday to the Auckland University College Council by Professor P. H. Burbidge, professor of physics. It was stated that these two courses had necesvsarily been in abeyance because of war effects, but there was now a demand for them.
Professor Burbidge recommended that the college should continue the teaching of radio physics, and appoint a lecturer in this subject, so releasing the present lecturer for a return to the pure physics courses.
The council decided to refer the matter to the executive of the Professorial Board and to the Education Committee for report hack to the board. The president, Mr. W. H. Cocker, emphasised the need for urgency if the change was to he effective this vear.
