DOMINION TOURNAMENT PLAYERS LEFT IN SINQLES (P-A.) DUNEDIN, Snnday Playing' condition* were excellent for postsection play in the singles and pairs Competitions at the New Zealand bowling championship tournament yesterday. Only two twolifers remained at the end of play in the singles, these being M. McKenzie (Te Rangi, Inverca-rgill) and A. Clark (Ashbury, Timaru). Eight players will enter the sixth round with one life. They are: N. Donaldson (Ponsonby), C. J. Beecroft (Dunedin). M. J. Squire (Hawera) W. J. Short (Pukekohe). E. W. Taylor (Carlton), W. Gilbext (Kelburn), J. T. Adams (Phoenix, Oamaru) and J. S, Anchor (Hamilton). Among the victims of McKenzie was M. J. .Squire (Hawera), and subseauently McKenzie defeated the title-holder, C- Spearman (Christchurch R.S.A.), by a margin of eight points. Clark won all his matches by comfortable margins. He stopped the winning run of H. M. Dykes (Seatoun) by 22 —7. Dykes is a third-year player who had defeated Spearman, costing the title-holder his first life. Anchor and Squire were prominent throughout the section play. Anchor entered postsection play with two lives and his only defeat was at the hands of Clark. Beecroft, who entered post-section play as a one-lifer, was unbeaten at the end of the fifth round He eliminated E. P.. Exelby (Frankton Junction) in that round. Two former champior.il were eliminated during the day. They were G. A. Deare (Carlton), 1940 winner, who was beaten by his clubmate. E. W. Taylor, and F. Lambeth (Balmacewen). 1930 winner, who went under to A. E. Clinkard (Carlton). In some cases post-section play in the pair.i was advanced as far as the fourth round. A. Silver and J. Veitch won four games during the day and another well-known skip, J, Lawrie (Victoria), with G. Littlejohn leading, was unbeaten in three games. Among those eliminated in the first round were W. G. Lindsay and C. E. Tyrrell (Roslyn), the latter being skip of the champion pair some years ago. W. Luscombe and J. Lobb (West End, Taranaki) beat the Roslyn pair by 21 to 20.
