NORTHERN TEAM WINS TWO' CENTURIES REGISTERED The cricket match between teams representing the Northern and Central Military Districts was continued at Eden Park on Saturday in fine weather, Northern winuinsr on the first innings. The Northern team, which had scored 246 for two wickets in reply to Central's 1230, was all out at lunch for 377 runs, giving it a lead of 147 over Central. The not out batsmen, W. M. Wallace and (i. A. Richards, continued play, Wallace losing his wicket after he had scored four. Richards was then 70 and with steady, carefully executed strokes, combined with hard hitting at anything loose, reached bis century in 90 minutes, which included one six and seven fours. Central District's bowling was better than on the previous day. Central's first wicket in the second innings fell at 21, but any hopes that Northern had of an outright win faded when W. H. Barker and J. D. Murchinson became associated at '2.10 p.m. When Barker played a ball from Partridge on to "his wicket with his score at 40 the partnership had added SO runs, which had taken two hours and twenty-five minutes. Murchinson batted with caution, find a defensive innings by T. A. Birch for 30 resulted in a further partnership of 70. Murchinson was undefeated at stumps with 120 to his credit, which included, six boundaries, and the side's total was 238 for seven wickets. WELLINGTON, Sunday After an interesting day's play yesterday, the cricket match between teams representing the and Air Force at the Basin Reserve resulted in a win for Navy on the first innings. ><avy totalled 253 on the first day, and Air Force responded with 66 for three wickets. It was thought that the Air Force, with a strong batting string, had a good chance of reaching Navy's total, but E. Prentice, the fast-medium right-hand bowler from the North Shore club (Auckland) again called the tune. He had taken three wickets for 22 runs on Friday afternoon, and finished with t.he splendid average of eight for 67. The only stand' of Air Force's innings was made by Hoar and Dunnet, the wicketkeeper, who pi;t on 75 runs for the ninth wicket. The innings closed at 2.7 p.m. for 19S. Pritchard (captain) and Richards, who had put on 78 for the first, wicket in Navy's first innings, again gave the team a splendid start by adding 81 for the first wicket in the second innings. After this there was a batting slump and the innings was declared closed at 4.20 p.m. with the score standing at 151 for eight wickets. Smith proved : himself a capable lefthand slow spin bowler by taking five wickets for 44 runs off seven overs. Requiring 207 mns to win in 88 minutes. Air Forcg had made 120 for no wickets at stumps. AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION SERIES OF ONE-DAY MATCHES Exciting finishes were witnessed in the series of one-day matches in the Auckland Cricket Association's senior championship on Saturday afternoon. E. G. McLeod (71) and W. F. Boaden (73) batted freely, the latter hitting 11 fours and two sixes. The pair added 130 for the fourth wicket.
