PACIFIC WAR STRATEGY
POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT NEW YORK, Auk. 12i» The Washington correspondent of the New York Times says that following the Quebec conference Pacific war strategy will probably develop as follows: — (l 1 ) General .MucArthurs painful but punishingly successful campaign will continue, since it keeps 200.000 of the enemy engaged or on guard, reduces Japan's outer defence bases and grinds down her air and naval strengths. (2) When Japanese defences on New Guinea and Italian! crumble the conflict will spread to the Indies and the Philippines under General MaeArthnr's direction. (•'!) Amphibious operation under naval direction sooner or later will be undertaken against Truk, the main Japanese base in the Central Pacific. (4) Lord Louis Mountbatten will lead the big push through Uurma when he assembles the huge anny and invasion fleet necessary to ensure overwhelming superiority. (5) With the Aleutians again in American hands, Japan must natch for air and sea «tnhs from the north, particularly against her bases in the Ku riles.
