LEAGUE TRIALS PLAYED

Senior trial matches were played at Cariaw Park on Saturday afternoon under the control of the Auckland Rugby League. The attendance was good. There was no shortage of players arid, judging by the standard, it may bo possible for clubs to carry on without amalgamations. Eight of the senior clubs fielded teams. In the main game, Otahuhu, formerly a strong .junior club, caused a surprise by defeating Richmond in the last few minutes of a fast, open game. Otahuhu's six heavy forwards were impressive. The Richmond backs were Iho better set. but lacked opportunities. In the curtain-raiser, both City and Mount Albert fielded a number of young players, and tho former was superior in the rear division, and scored a narrow victory. On Xo. 2 ground, Marist narrowly defeated a promising Xewton thirteen, while Ponsonby bent North Shore in a high-scoring match. Scores were:—Ofahnhu. 13 (tries by Thompson, Haiscy, Gordon, Mullens converting 'wo). Richmond, 7 (try by McGregor, converted by Magill, who also kicked a penalty goal); City, 14 (tries by A. Donovan. Te Wiri, Donovan converting both and kicking two penalty goals). Mount Albert, 9 (tries by Cranch, Clements and Zane); Marist, 7 (try by Silver, converted by Simons, and penalty goal by Bramwell), Newton, 2 (penalty goal by Silva); Ponsonby, "34, North Shore 25. i
