TROTTING NOTES

RUNNING AT TE RAPA BY ABAYDO3 In view of the Auckland Trotting Club's Autumn fleeting at Epsom on Aprii 17, for which good entries have been received, the form at To Rapa last Saturday attracted much attention. The racing generally was of a high standard with some exciting finishes. In three events, .however, the winners scored with the greatest of ease. These were Volo Senwod, Josctte end Paul Parrish, the last-named being at surprisingly long odds. The manner in which Volo Senwod outclassed the opposition in the Frank ton Handicap stamped tho three-year-old as a young pacer of exceptional promise. Volo Senwod is owned by Mr. A. G. Downes, for whom .he has registered a first, and second in only three starts. He is a half-brother by Lusty ( Vo!o, to Eyenew. F. J. Smith was also seen to advantage •with tho three years-old trotter, Forewarned, by Swordsman from Fair Warning. Forewarned has recorded a win and a second jn three starfs. On Saturday she becamo unbalanced early and at the end of half a mile looked in a hopeless position, but, trotting in great style, got up to win with something in reserve. When Parshall scored attractively in the Farewell Handicap lie completed a treble for F. J. Smith, and enhanced his claims to favouritism for the Adams Memorial Handicap nt Epsom. Parshall has furnished into a fine type and looks like one who will go on to New Zealand Trotting Cup class. •Although not one of the favourites, Mighty scored a popular win for Mr. L. €. Jlardley, "who registered his first success as an owner. Mighty was turned out in splendid condition by P. Rogers and was assisted by the reinsmanship of J. Bryce, jun. He revealed more courage than formerly in a hard finish. Josctte has made remarkable improvement this season and ber fine form over two miles ba« justified M. Stewart's opinion that she would develop into a high-class stayeT. Josctte is now eligible to race among the best in the Auckland Province arid has further prospects. She is by David McElwyn from Cyone. A very fine exhibition of trotting was given by Paul Parrish to win the Cambridge Handicap. He was confidently driven by his owner, W. J. Wheeler, who also won tho James Twohill Memorial at the December meeting with him. On roomy tracks Paul Parrish is always a hard horse to beat. The fine-looking Jack Potts colt, Volterra. registered his first success, when, in a good finish, he defeated tho consistent Stnart Leo, in the Claudelands Handicap. Volterra, who is owned by Mr V. Barker, part-owner of Conflagrate, is a full-brother to the Auckland mul New Zealand Trotting Cup winner, MarJcne. Ho should not be long in gaining further success.
