NURSES' FINE RECORD EXAMINATION HONOURS The biennial presentation of certificates, medals and prizes took place last night in the social hall of the Nurses' Home at the Auckland Hospital. The chairman of the Hospital Board, Mr. Allan J. Moody, presided. Those present included the deputy-medical superintendent, Dr. C. Gilberd, and Mrs. Gilherd, the lady superintendent of Green Lane Hospital, Miss A. Blewett, members of the Hospital Board and their wives, and parents and friends of the nurses receiving awards. The lady superintendent, Miss V. M. Cussen, presented the report on the examinations. In offering congratulations to the successful nurses 011 the large number of honours gained by them, she expressed her pleasure that no fewer than 12 had gained honours in nursing technique. In the hospital final examination the board's gold medals for the best nurso of the year, practical and theoretical, were awarded to Nurse B. G. Weir and Nurse M. Peacock, who passed equal for first place. Forty nurses out of 42 passed the State Registration Examination, 12 gained honours in nursing technique, four honours in surgical nursing, and one received honours in medical nursing. Here again Nurse Weir's performance was outstanding, for she not only passed top of the Dominion, equal with Nurse Hart, of New Plymouth Hospital, but also gained honours in nursing technique, medical nursing and surgical nursing. Nurse Weir also won the third year medical prize. Other prizes were awarded to Nurse M. B Lamb, third year surgical, Nurse A. J. Henson, third year ophthalmology, Nurse C. S. Monaghan, second year best practical nurse, and Nurse J.

E. Millies, first year anatomy and physiology and practical nursing. Nurse Weir, whose achievement in securing triple honours is the highlight of this year's hospital examination results, is the daughter of Mrs. V. L. Weir, of Victoria Avenue, Eemuera. Auckland Hospital certificates for four years' training were presented to the following:—Nurses A. F. Dann, M. M. Duane. O. I. Mclnnes, O. V. Williams. D. C. M. Young, P. R. Bow, D T. Capill, J. Firth, N. Hart, M. L. Jeavrons. F. R. Mansfield, G. T. Parker, C. W. Rooke, K. E. J. Sharp, M. G. Thorn, D. M. Wilson. M. .T. C. Smith. PLUNKET SOCIETY NEEDS Many peacetime organisations have temporarily been submerged by the need to concentrate on activities connected with the fighting forces. But one organisation which is required at all times, whether in peace or in war, is the Plunket Society, whose work of "Helping the Mothers and Saving the Babies" is so essential. To maintain all services the Auckland branch has to raise £SOOO annually, over and above the Government subsidy. r J'o-morrow the citizens of Auckland will have an opportunity of showing their appreciation of this grand work by contributing generously to the street appeal. SOCIAL NEWS Mrs. Aubrey Hollingworth, of Whangarei Heads, is paying a. brief visit to Auckland, and is at the Esplanade Hotel.
