CONSPIRACY CHARGE

GIRL STUDENT AND COACH UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION SYDNEY. March 23 An unusual case concerning a university examination was heard in the Central Police Court, Sydney, when a girl was charged with having conspired with her coach to pass an examination at Arinidale. Ngarie Patricia Payne, aged 29, described as a bacteriologist, was charged with conspiracy, it was alleged that she and Raymond Campbell Miller conspired at Arm id ale "to work together to produce a public mischief" in that she, having applied to the university to sit for a matriculation examination, arranged that Miller would impersonate her at the examination held at the New F.ngland University College, Armidale. It was also alleged that Miller falsely represented himself to be Ngarie Patricia Payne and completed answers to the papers set in English and Latin. Detective-Sergeant .Tack said that after the charge was read to the girl she said: "Tt was a silly thing to do. T am a bacteriologist and wanted a degree. T have been sick and nm really too ill to sit. and my coach agreed to sit for the examination in my place.'' Defendant was remanded to Armidale Police Court on April 29. bail of £SO being allowed.
