Accused was sentenced to six weeks' imprisonment. Followed Into Hotel Alfred Hice, storeman, aged 42, was followed into a hotel by Detective Mahood 011 Saturday afternoon and a book in his possession showed that he had taken 71 bets totalling £42, said Mr. Walsh. Accused had 110 previous convictions and was in regular employment at £6 a week. Accused, who said he was only a bookmaker's agent, was fined £2O. When Dick Llewellyn Claridge, barman, aged <"59, appeared, Mr. Walsh said accused worked in a hotel and was betting in a small way. He had £3 15s in his possession and had a home-made doubles chart which offered £7 to 2s 6d. Accused said he had broken both feet while serving in the Army in New Zealand. He received £0 5s in wages and when he was in camp his wife had got into debt. Hp had made 110 money out ol the doubles chart and had lost his job. A fine of £lO was imposed.
