ENGINE DERAILED
WANGANUI ACCIDENT DISLOCATION OF TRAFFIC CO.C.) WANGANUI, Sunday Through railway traffic between Marton and Wanganui was dislocated for moro than two hours yesterday morning when the locomotive hauling a freight train bound for Wanganui was partly derailed near Okoia, a small station south of Aramoho. The mishap occurred at about 7.;}0. The front wheels of the leading bogie came off the rails. Prompt action was taken by the train crew and surfacemen to replace the wheels of the !)0-ton locomotive on the rails and remove a damaged driving rod. In spite of having only Jevers and jacks with which to carry out a difficult task they completed their work in an hour and a-half. In the meantime a race train from Wanganui to Palmerston North, with about ]OO passengers, was held at Aramoho. The passengers were transhipped by buses to Fordell, where another train was made available. They were delayed . 45 minutes. A mixed train, which connected at Marton with the limited express from Auckland, ran to Fordell only, passengers and mails being convoyed to Wanganui by buses and arriving an hour late.
