The first of these was to help refugee academic women to enter New Zealand. Permits were ob- ; tained for 10 women, but these permits became invalid after war was de- j jclared, and only one refugee, who is at present studying for her law degree at the Auckland University College, was able to reach New Zealand. Another scheme to assist in the evacuation of children of British graduate could not be carried out, as the British authorities prohibited further emigration of children before the scheme could be put into operation.
