TRAINING AT EPSOM TRIALS ON THE GRASS BY ABAYDOS The presence of horses from Canterbury, Waverley, Cambridge and Mangere gave added interest to the training on the course proper at Epsom yesterday. The poles were out 42 feet and the going was fair. The smartest efforts over half a mile were Cavalryman, 1.6 2-5; True Guide, I.G 3-5: Charles ilex, 1.7; Stargum, 1.8 2-5; and Derby Lu, I.S -1-5. AUCKLAND TROTS GOOD CLASS IN HANDICAP BY ABAYDOS Good class pacers are listed for the Jellicoe Handicap and the Electric Handicap, the two principal races on the first day of the Auckland Trotting Club's Spring Meeting at Epsom on Saturday. The presence of the New Zealand Cup candidate Josedale Grattan will be of interest, although from 108 yards behind his prospects are not bright. Smart pacers in Sabu, Shadow Son, Cavalryman and Isabella Pointer figure on the limit and Ihe.v are capahle of good efforts. Cyone Girl. Te Roto, Hillcrest and Double Peter are well placed. The favourites nay be Sabu, Cavalryman, Isabella Pointer and Double Peter. Several of the Jellicoe Handicap runners also appear in the Electric Handicap, while fresh ones, Kete Kura, Grand Dame and Our Peggy, should add to the interest. Those in demand may include Te Roto, Sabu. Kete Kura and Isabella Pointer. ELLERSLIE WORK TRANSMITTER GOES FAST Chief interest at Ellerslie yesterday was centred in the doings of horses engaged at the Waikato Hunt Races $t Cambridge on Monday. The speedy Transmitter directed attention to his prospects in the Bollard Memorial .Handicap by running three furlongs on the P»o. 2 grass in 36 l-ss. The going was last, but it was a pleasing effort. Corot sprinted four furlongs in 50s. Belle Renarde was under a nice hold while running three furlongs in 395. DEATH OF TROTTER The trotter Hatrack is dead apd the pacers Burt .Scott and Bronze Eagle are in a critical condition as a result of sudden illness, siates a Press Association message from Christchurch. The three horses developed dangerous symptoms some time ago and it looked for a time as if Burt Scott and Bronze Eagle, who is a Trotting Cup candidate, would also succumb. Burt Scott has since shown improvement, and there are now signs that Bronze Eagle may recover, although both are still in a serious cMdition.
