MANUKAU WINS AGAIN CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS A high standard of play, with exciting exchanges, was witnessed at Carlaw Park on Saturday, when Manukau defeated Richmond in the Auckland Rugby League's champion of champions fixture. There was a good attendance. By its win Manukau will hold the William Stormont Memorial Shield for one year. Miss J. Watson, the young daughter of the chairman. Mr. J. W. Watson, kicked the ball off. Richmond can be commended for a splendid effort against a much heavier team. Tts backs stood up to the task really well. In fact the younger players of the backs excelled, particularly in the second spell, which was very exciting. It was only the well-timed support of the Manukau forwards which carried the day. Most of the attacks by the Maori back division were finished off by the speed and good handling of the forwards. Manukau gained two good tries in the first spell, and led by six points to nil at halftime. The first try was the result of fast and brilliant combination, and Thompson, Murray and Chase figured in the movement twice before the latter Taced over. The Richmond team clapped on the pace in the second half, and the backs, McGregor and Lowther, did fine work to pave the way for a (rood try by Kinney. With a little more finish to several other attacks, at least two more tries may have been scored by the Richmond forwards. However, Manukau, which was without the services of Ririnui and Watene, was a little superior. Martin at fullback for Manukau played a sterling game and was in several passing bouts. Major, the halfback, gave easily his best display this season, and Inglis at fiveeighths was often dangerous on attack. Murray was as thrustfnl as usual, and Chase played well on the wing. Thompson, Turei and Shilton played good games among the forwards.

Tries for Mannkau were scored by Chase, Thompson and Inglis, and Hemi kicked a penalty goal. Kinney scored for Richmond, and Magill kicked a penalty goal.
