ENEMY PRISONERS ARTILLERY IN ACTION SUCCESSES BY AIRCRAFT By Teleeraph—Press Association—Copyright (Reed. 1.40 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 2 The Cairo communique issued today is as follows: "During Monday night our forces in the northern Bector made a successful raid and took a number of German prisoners. " In the southern sector on Tuesday Mir forces, including armour and artillery, fought throughout the day trith the enemy's armoured forces in the area between El Himeimat and Ruweisak Ridge." Referring to air operations the communique adds: "On Monday night Royal Air Force bombers and planes of the South African Air Force and United States Army Air Force, assisted by naval aircraft, successfully attacked targets in the battle area and on the landing grounds between Mersa Matruh and El Daba. "In spite of rising sand, largescale air operations wero carried out over tho battle area on Tuesday. Our bombing was intensive and accurate. At least two large Stuka formations were attacked by our fighters and the enemy was on many occasions forced to jettison his bombs. During Tuesday at least six enemy bombers and li J fighters were destroyed in three operations. "Our long-range fighters successfully attacked motor transport on the coastal road between Gam but and Sidi Barrani."
